MonoWave, Frequently Asked Questions
In no particular order, here are the most common questions I get asked.
Q: Does the Monowave have patch memory?
No, It has no patch memory as the unit has some pure analogue circuitry in it.
For example, when you adjust the resonance on the filter you adjust part of the circuit, you dont send a signal to a cpu that processes it then sends it on somewhere else. This means you dont get any stepping or zipper noise that many synths suffer.
Q: Why are you only doing a limited run of 25?
Good question, The reason is two fold. firstly I'm did this out of my own pocket and I didn't have thousands of pounds to sink into a product that might not have sold.
Also I wanted to keep full control of the build quality of the units. Sending them off to be made by some mass production firm who dont really care aslong as they get their money, didnt seem a good idea to me.
The money I make from the sale of these will be used to fund other future products.
Q: How much of it is Analogue?
Only the oscillators (including LFO)are digital, the envelopes, filters and VCA are pure analogue.
Q: What is the case made of?
Zintec - it's a Zinc/Steel mix, makeing it VERY strong and also preventing rust, nothing plastic to break or snap off!
Q: What do I get with my Monowave?
You get a Monowave, a user guide and Full schematics (show me another modern synth manufacturer that does that)!
You also get a full 12 months warranty, if something goes wrong (though they shouldn't) ship it to me, I'll fix it and ship it back as soon as I can, no quibbling.
What you dont get is a mains lead, There are just too many different ones through-out the world for me to hold stock of them, Any standard IEC inlet (same as your PC/Kettle) will fit.
Q: Can I have some modifications made?
Yes, some of them have customer specific mods, filter cutoff controlled by ModWheel or Pre filter Audio input are two examples.
Q: When are they available?
Sorry, they're no longer available. The last of the 25 was sold in August 2003. You can now buy kits from elby-designs,
